Hazy Dreams is Abnormal Beer Co.’s hazy IPA, formerly known as Hazing Freshman. The name changed, but the idea stayed the same: an aggressively hop-forward hazy beer that leans on oats and wheat for a soft body instead of bitterness for its punch.
The basics
- Brewery: Abnormal Beer Company (San Diego, CA)
- Style: Hazy IPA
- ABV: 6.9%
- IBU: 30
What to expect
Hazy Dreams pours a hazy pale orange with a soft white head. The nose is hop-forward in the classic hazy way: waves of citrus, tropical fruit, and a resinous edge. Oats and unmalted wheat give it a medium, pillowy body, and the flavor follows the aroma into fresh-squeezed citrus and tropical fruit with a hop-heavy finish.
The bitterness stays low for an IPA, which lets the juice-like character carry the beer. It is a modern hazy IPA through and through: soft, fruity, and built for drinkers who want hop flavor without the bite.
Our rating
7.0/10
Rated by Nick (7). Nick’s take is a solid one: a well-executed hazy IPA that delivers the soft body and citrus-forward hop character the style promises. It does not reinvent the style, but it does not need to. If you like your IPAs hazy and juicy, this one earns its place in the rotation.
