Jucci Gang is Bay City Brewing’s flagship hazy double IPA, and it is the beer that put the Point Loma brewery’s “Fog on the Bay” series on the map. The name nods to a certain rap anthem, but the beer itself is serious: a juicy, pillowy double IPA that has become one of Bay City’s best sellers at both of its San Diego locations.

The basics

  • Brewery: Bay City Brewing Company (San Diego, CA)
  • Style: Hazy Double IPA
  • ABV: 8.5%
  • IBU: 50

What to expect

Jucci Gang pours hazy orange-gold with a soft white head. It is brewed with Pacifica, Citra, Mosaic, and Wakatu hops, plus oats and wheat for a pillowy mouthfeel. The flavor is all juice: mango, peach, passion fruit, and sweet orange, with a hint of bitter orange and a light dank edge underneath. The bitterness is low for a double IPA, and the 8.5% is remarkably well hidden, which makes this one dangerously drinkable.

Our rating

8.0/10

Rated by Nick (8). Nick gave Jucci Gang an 8 because it is everything a hazy double IPA should be: big, juicy, soft, and fun to drink. It does not reinvent the style, but it nails the fundamentals, and the fact that it drinks so easily at 8.5% is either a feature or a warning depending on your plans. Either way, this is a beer we keep coming back to.
